Network Creation Possibility?

I am very curious to know how many people would be interested in starting an (un)settler network, that can share and learn collectively, but also meets up for workshops.

I can see it being something to strive for. At least I can see it working in territory claimed by the Canadian state.

I was thinking do outreach with a plan for a conference in Vancouver in 2010 one week before the Olympics are converged on. With lead up regional get togethers in 2009 in places like Edmonton, Winnipeg, Montreal before then.

One of the aims being producing a 1-3 time magazine on (un)settling modeled in between Redwire magazine and upping the anti, and maintaining a web resource for people doing ally work with Indigenous peoples. I really like the art aspect of Redwire and its uncensored nature, while i also think adding theory like upping the Anti would be called for.

What I was thinking was one issue on why unsettle?
Another on how to unsettle?
and the last one on what becomes of the settler and the Identities changed in the process?

what ya all think?

Looks like a damn good idea, as long as you can keep away from the usual *guilt* orientation of settler politics, and go more for people's desires for liberation from the various traps they find themselves in!

I admit being quite skeptical at just how deeply an unsettler consciousness would be *allowed to go* by various hidden pressures, tho. I.e. the more ideologically challenged in the socialist movement. For consciousness raising on this, you might read up on some of what the post-left anarchist movement has to offer.

Good to see you still thinking about this stuff! And don't take my skepticism and pain personally (listen to the Toltec on that!), unless you really really want to! (heh)

P.s. i don't know if you're Alex P. but i wonder if you'd like to continue possible future dialogues at some time?

I think the education of peoples outside the realm of our indigenous collectives is imperative. The idea of an 'un-settler' network for this purpose then is a great idea. Vine Deloria provided: "The public feels most comfortable with the mythical Indians of stereotype...Literature on Indians provides no clues to understanding the present or remembering the past. Much contemporary literature is a thinly disguised romanticism..." Part of unsettling the settler is having them relinquish those comfortable stereotypes that hinder the indigenous agenda. I'm for it. But like Spirit Dude, think it's important to stay away from the guilt aspect of it all. We don't need pity! We need to form alliances and since when does that happen with one feeling sorry for the other. Alliances come from places of respect and equality.
